Nordic Petroglyph Print Linocut Bronze Age Rock Art Red or Black Ink MADE TO ORDER
This beautiful linocut print is hand printed upon 100% Legion 9"x12" Cotton Paper, using Speedball block printing ink. The design is based upon the rock carvings of Bronze Age Lur-blowers from Kalleby in Bohuslän, west Sweden, and was hand cut on a linoleum block here In the Ravens Galdr shop.
Since the first find, the lurs have been shrouded in mystery and their purpose has frequently been discussed. In a museum catalogue from 1836 the musical instruments are described as ‘lurs or war trumpets of bronze’. Especially in the nineteenth century, the lurs were mentioned regularly as a signal instrument used in war. However, it is more likely that they were used in connection with rituals. On Swedish rock carvings from the Bronze Age one can see lur-blowers who are undoubtedly participating in processions or religious rites. Lurs are also exclusively found in bogs, perhaps because of their special role in religion.
This is a MADE TO ORDER work of art, and may take 3 to 5 days to process.
Each print will be carefully packed into a 10"x13" Eco Friendly Mailer to protect it. It will then be shipped to you via USPS.
